... and I think you both missed the point of the movie. hmmm.

Imagine a system ...
Imagine a system where robotics grow and process crops, turn the raw material into edible meals, and ship these meals to stores with automated "vehicles." These stores would also have automated processes that send information back to the automated manufacturing process so they know how much more/less is needed of a particular product for a particular location. This is conceivable even today if people put their minds towards it. Imagine 700 years from now.

Your comment, "in order to consume, you also need to work" is not something that will be true in the future. Again, EVERYTHING is automated. The food and drink you comsume comes to you in a completely automated process with not a single person needing to lift a finger. The same goes for all other aspects of their lives. You are thinking about this from a modern perspective; the movie is from a futuristic point of view when robots do, literally, everything necessary for the humans.

No! Pay attention ...
No! Pay attention to the damn movie! I could accept that scenario, you don't have to pay robots, but in this movie people are clearly shown "shopping" It is described everywhere as an indictment of "consumerism" while conveniently ignoring that in order to consume, you also need to work. Even a crook needs to expend some effort for his ill gotten gains.

flyinDPOD, "money" is a primitive concept when everything is automated and no one needs to do anything. The premises are not flawed, the creators of this movie are visionary.
